Blueprint Plans Model Refugee Camps

The Blueprint Initiative, an alliance formed to develop patterns for regenerative settlements, has agreed upon a project to design model refugee camps, Blueprint 200. During a meeting held at Healing Biotope 1, Tamera, from March 30 to April 3, 2016, the plan to design and build two demonstration sites was agreed upon. The sites will embody a whole-system approach to the building of regenerative settlements, and incorporate all aspects of the basic infrastructure needed by displaced people, such as water and sanitation, energy, road access, agriculture, and shelter.

UNHCR Resources on Integrated Design for Refugees

Here are some interesting resources that have been funded by the UNHCR, UN’s refugee agency, which involve more integrated design and solutions. The last two resources were from “Permaculture for Peace” resource list

Permaculture Conference & Convergence in London, UK

Permaculture Conference & Convergence 2015

The Permaculture Association UK hosted the International Permaculture Conference on the 8th and 9th of September and Convergence from September 10th to 16th (IPC). Jay Abrahams and Tom Chambers attended the Conference and Ruth attended both Conference and Covergence. Emergency response, the refugee crisis, and building community resilience through integrated design were topics that were touched in many presentations and workshops. Here are some of the highlights:

Work in Skala, Greece completed

Skala Swales

The first Blueprint capacity building in Greece was very successful. The impulse for this intervention arose from the GEN+20 summit in Findhorn in July 2015 as a response to the current crisis in the country. In August, during the 'Skala Summer Community Gathering' and a network meeting, 40 members of the Skala community and guests participated in the Permaculture Design Education event. A group, which included Jay Abrahams, Bernd Müller, Martin Funk, Christine Fischer and Sandra Imhof, were the Blueprint team for the training and implementation.

Blueprint Meeting at Tamera, Portugal

Blueprint Meeting

We gathered for a two-day meeting at Tamera with members of the Blueprint Network to carry on the development of this collaborative community and learning network, whose members share a common set of values and bring distinctive skills that can be integrated into the design of regenerative patterns for human settlements, especially in areas vulnerable to natural and manmade disasters.
